The LandMark Mapping Platform: New Data and Tools for Securing Indigenous Peoples’ and Local Communities’ Rights and Meeting Global Biodiversity Targets

Big Room

World Resources Institute and International Land Coalition present Securing Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ traditional rights is key to conserving biodiversity - the newly updated LandMark mapping platform supports efforts toward meeting these critical objectives.

LandMark supports and is governed by Indigenous Peoples and local communities. This session offers their perspectives on how LandMark supports efforts to protect and advocate for their rights, by documenting their land, the vital ecosystem services that they provide, and pressures they face. Members of the LandMark’s governing body, its Steering Group, will present LandMark’s new features, focusing on how the platform can be used toward achieving the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, founded on recognition of rights and the agency of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
