There is increasing pressure from regulations and voluntary disclosure frameworks (e.g. CSRD and TNFD) for companies to disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature, and related risks and opportunities. The challenge with conventional monitoring techniques is that gathering location-specific and ground truthed data on nature is not practical, efficient or affordable at scale. Fortunately, technological solutions that combine remotely sensed satellite data with Environmental DNA (eDNA) are helping to plug the gap.
Meaningful data is crucial to support implementation of actions that are tackling the “right” nature challenges i.e. resulting in meaningful protection of ecologically significant areas and species, and driving meaningful management decisions from site up to a global scale. Robust platforms and data monitoring to enable companies to track action and progress are essential.
