Progress towards 30×30: innovation and lessons at country and regional levels

Big Room

The Nature Conservancy presents a global 30x30 protection target is ambitious, but many countries are making significant progress through policy, science, financing and protected area designation since the signing of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Since the signing of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in 2022, many countries, through the involvement of various entities, have been making significant progress in contributing to Target 3 or to their own national/regional 30 by 30 ambitions. Here, we outline broad public support and progress made in policy, science, planning, financing, stakeholder engagement and establishment of protected areas and OECMs in a variety of places, including Kenya, Indonesia, Mongolia, Australia and the Caribbean. These efforts range across public, private and Indigenous lands. Key lessons, challenges and emerging opportunities will be discussed.
