Ready to play NatureFinance's much anticipated Nature Monopoly game at the Nature Positive Pavilion?
NatureFinance and KPMG bringing a wealth of expertise in nature finance, accounting and valuation, are excited to bring you an interactive game which tests your wits, risk and opportunity-taking appetite, long-term planning and strategy to protect, manage and restore nature in the real world. Our game is called ‘Nature’s Friend or Foe’ – based on Monopoly – and challenges teams of participants to make their way around the board all the while having to make investment decisions as they land on different squares. Do they invest in sustainable commodities, will they choose to invest in carbon or nature markets, or do nothing? Can they manage their risks and dependencies in time, or will they have to pay a fine? Can players help local communities to find investors to help manage and maintain their priority ecosystems? Can players increase their ‘value’ the more IPLCs are involved in the investment decision and flow-back of cash to communities. Will their investment help driving a transition to a food secure world (regen ag, alternative proteins, vertical farming). Should we all pay an extra land value tax? Are players willing to lend money to their governments to fund nature restoration? Are they ready to accept a lower interest rate if governments deliver on their nature and climate commitments? Are the players willing to take a haircut on the debt governments owe them if they commit to channel funds into nature conservation? In the meantime, with increasing temperatures rising beyond 1.5C and more regulation – when you land on a ‘chance’ square – it costs – either time, money or the opportunity to innovate and adapt. Can you thrive in the Nature Game? To win it, society and nature need to win too.
