Human-rights based approaches to conservation – Lessons learned from safeguarding implementation and launch of new web-based assessment tool

Small Room

Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF) together with implementing partners (IEPE, WCS, ZGF) and DLA Piper will showcase environmental and social safeguards implementation and launch a web-based human rights due diligence tool.

Conservation interventions can have adverse human rights impacts affecting a wide range of stakeholders. Conservation funding and implementing actors have increasingly advanced environmental and social safeguarding, including human-rights based approaches in their operations to help address these issues.
LLF, being a funding instrument for area-based conservation, will introduce its Environmental and Social Safeguards System and partner organizations, including Indigenous representatives, will showcase practical examples of safeguards implementation and opportunities and challenges that come with it. A new web-based human rights due diligence tool, under development by DLA Piper, a world leading law firm engaged in conservation, will be launched.

The speakers for this event will be:

  • Dr. Ilka Herbinger, LLF
  • Jakeline Pereira, Imazon and IP representatives
  • Matthew Linkie, WCS and Magaly Tipuni, CRTM
  • Esperanza Leal Gómez, FZS
  • Hauke Hoops, FZS
  • Shirley Magniez-Pouget, DLA Piper
