From Global Goals to Local Action – Setting Science-Based Targets for Nature Positive Cities
Big Room
Science Based Targets Network - SBTN is developing an overarching guideline for cities to set science-based targets for nature: providing global alignment on target setting methodologies and metrics that allow cities to assess their own impact areas and set feasible yet meaningful targets to set cities up for a nature positive future.
Taking targeted action to support nature is key for building vibrant and livable cities. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) sets the direction for nature conservation and restoration strategies and provides a set of global targets. However, translating these to science-based targets on the scale of cities is challenging providing the varying contexts of city landscapes. There is a real need for global alignment on a legitimate approach allowing cities to assess their own impact areas and set feasible yet meaningful targets that set cities up for a Nature Positive future. The objective of the Nature Science-based Targets for Cities Program is to equip cities with overarching guidelines to navigate the best methodologies and metrics for setting meaningful and actionable targets for nature.
The objective of the event is to:
-Demonstrate and discuss the initial guidance framework
-Facilitate knowledge exchange
-Promote global alignment in metrics and target setting methodologies
