From Funding to Financing Nature: a conversation about the distinction between funding nature and financing it, with a focus on the process designs to make best use of financing approaches. A session led by Yale School of Environment.
Funding provides money for conservation projects without requiring a monetary return to the funder. Financing, on the other hand, requires a return to the person or organization providing capital. Some of that return will come in the form of meeting conservation commitments or enhancing nonmarket wellbeing. But, for financing to work, there also must be a financial return to the investor. Our speakers are uniquely positioned to discuss how this distinction plays out in practice and highlight process design features, relevant to current negotiations, that best make use of financing.
