Looking from COP16 ahead to COP30 in Belem, Brazil, for nature-related action and climate-nature nexus. This will be a session co-hosted by Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), Climate Champions, and NatureFinance.
This session will explore the critical journey from COP16 to COP30, with a focus on nature-related action and the climate-nature nexus. In late 2023, during its G20 presidency, the Brazilian government launched the groundbreaking Bioeconomy Initiative (GIB) as a central agenda item. Now, as we reach the midway point between Brazil’s launch of the GIB and its hosting of COP30, attention is sharply focused on the path forward. The outcomes of COP16 will be crucial in shaping the trajectory toward COP30.
This high-level session will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the strategic importance of the G20 Bioeconomy Initiative, the role of international platforms like the G20 and TNFD, and the integration of nature into global financial systems. Speakers will explore how the GIB can be leveraged to scale finance for nature-related actions and set the stage for meaningful outcomes at COP30. The session will also outline the strategic steps and milestones needed over the next year, emphasising how the outcomes of COP16 can inform and strengthen the global nature finance agenda.
