Ethnobotany of local rice diversity: Culture, Climate and Coexistence. A discussion led by the Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and the Global Alliance for the Future of Food.

Rice and life are Siamese twins in Bangladesh. But every day Bangladesh lost its local rice diversity. This genetic erosion affects the local ecosystem, culture, economy and progress. Local rice conservation is not equal attention in the mainstream biodiversity discourse. The discussion is planning to focus the diversified relationship and coexistence between traditional rice varieties and people to ensure the existence of mother earth. The experiences from an extensive participatory ethnobotanical work of 350 local rice varieties in Bangladesh. This discussion will contribute to strengthen the national CBD mechanism specially will address the article 8 (J) and article 10 (C).
