Developing a New Currency for Nature – The Verifiable Nature Unit: critical infrastructure for the nature finance market

Big Room

African Parks present a panel discussion focused on how by measuring fiduciary-grade nature outcomes, the VNU can be used to form the basis of various nature financing mechanisms and in doing so mobilize financial resources from across sectors.

African Parks, the largest conservation organization in Africa, together with  partner, The Landbanking Group, have launched the Verifiable Nature Unit (VNU), an outcomes-based funding mechanism for nature. A VNU represents an annual “fiduciary-grade” claim of conserving or restoring nature. These claims can be used to form the basis of various nature financing mechanisms, such as corporate nature contributions, outcomes-based grants for philanthropy or official development assistance, and private or sovereign nature-linked bonds (e.g. debt for nature swap). The panel discussion will focus on showcasing the different use cases and how these can be applied across different land-use types.
