Big Room
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) emphasizes that to meet the objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework, significant and immediate efforts are required from the private sector to mitigate threats to biodiversity. However, it is equally important that these contributions are both measurable and verifiable. How do we strike a balance between these imperatives?
The panel discussion will explore how corporate Nature Positive contributions to reducing pressures on biodiversity can be verified and quantified, as well as made quickly, in order that the goals of the KMGBF can be delivered. We explore the Measuring Nature Positive approach developed by IUCN, and the various ways in which private sector companies have piloted the approach and learned lessons about balancing speed and rigour. We’ll hear from scientists who are exploring the different requirements of measuring impacts on species and ecosystems, and get perspectives from governments about regulatory frameworks, and civil society about how they can contribute.
