Bridging Biodiversity and Climate: What to Expect from Cali to Belém

Big Room

Nature4Climate presents a panel that will examine the alignment of international environmental conventions in the lead-up to COP30. The discussion will center on securing financial backing and political commitments to bolster global biodiversity and climate initiatives, with a particular focus on developments in Cali, Baku, and Belém.

The journey to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, including CBD COP16 in Cali and UNFCCC COP29 in Baku, is essential for achieving coherent political action and securing the necessary finance to meet global biodiversity and climate goals. COP16 focuses on advancing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, aiming to mobilise at least $200 billion annually by 2030 to tackle biodiversity loss. COP29 will establish a new climate finance baseline of $100 billion annually by 2025. Success in Belém depends on aligning National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and implementing cross-sector financial mechanisms. This session unites key representatives to align priorities and foster collaboration.
