Are we missing half of our areas of importance for biodiversity?

Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are recommended as a disaggregation of the protected area coverage indicator for Target 3 as well as complementary indicators for Targets 1 & 2. Recently comprehensive assessments of KBAs have been made for many taxonomic groups and ecosystems in the Congo Basin, Andes, South Africa, Uganda and UAE. The findings show we are missing half the KBAs where comprehensive assessments have not been made. This session will showcase the findings of several of the countries together with the Bezos Earth Fund and make the case that all countries update their KBA network.
