Agrobiodiversity in Climate Resilient Food System

Big Room

In-situ conservation of local climate resilient species of cereals and crops ensure food and livelihood security: Some success stories from South Asia. Session organized by South Asian Forum for Environment (SAFE).

Village level seed sufficiency and in-situ conservation of germplasms of local resilient varieties of cereals and horticultural crops have provided food and livelihood securities in marginal agrarian communities in coastal areas of South Asia as well in eastern Himalayan terrains. The session presents some unique case studies to highlight community-based conservation and ecosystem-based adaptations in agroecology in some of the most climate vulnerable areas in global south. These interventions are accomplishing net-zero aspirations in the primary production sector through regenerative agriculture and organic farming.
